Action base building roguelike Cult of the Lamb (opens in new tab), one of this summer’s hits, enters winter and announces its first major content update for next year. It will add new things to the adorably violent cult of floofy animals, emphasizing the combat portion of the game over cult management.
The new content update includes new moves for The Lamb himself, allowing you to hold down the attack button to unleash a heavy attack unique to each weapon. They’ve shown off an area of effect for the sword, a boomerang throw for the axe, and a raining array of daggers for the… dagger.
In addition to the new weapons, Massive Monster says Cult of the Lamb’s first major content update “will include many other new features that will add depth, difficulty, accessibility, and quality of life.”
“We’ve got another set of fixes planned for the start of the new year, but after that we’ll be working on this major content update. It’s a LOT, so it’s going to take more time in the pot,” said developer Massive Monster. There are also now two new follower forms, which will apparently be available when Twitch drops to January 5.
You can read the full winter update from the Cult of the Lamb development team on steam (opens in new tab). Here are some sick gifs of lamb-on-beast heavy attack action.
Cult of the Lamb is a fusion of base building and action roguelike dungeons that begins with you, a lamb, being sacrificed to evil gods. However, the dark monster that rescues you and helps you kill your captors has bigger plans: to start a cult. Sounds good.
PC Gamer reviewer Luke Kemp called it “Animal Crossing as Tom Nook craved power instead of money”, noting that it managed the settlement well with the combat and crawling around.
“The feedback loop sees that your actions in the settlement directly affect your progress in the dungeons. The leveling system is, quite frankly, genius. The fundamental idea is that the bigger and luckier your cult is, the faster you can reap their Dedication ‘ he said in the PC Gamer Cult of the Lamb review.
You can find more about Cult of the lamb at its official website. It’s on sale on both GOG (opens in new tab) and Steam at a regular price of $25, but 25% or about $18.75 off until January 5th on Steam and until I don’t know because it doesn’t say their winter sale ends January 2nd on GOG.
In case you missed it, Cult of the Lamb recently had a nice little animation set in the game world. It’s a bit like a series of vertical segments from a theoretical animated series based on the Lamb’s world.
Also this cute holiday image.
