Disney Dreamlight Valley shared his story roadmap for the first half of 2023 including some new characters, several star trails season passes – oh, and multiplayer too. Gameloft didn’t provide any further explanation on what kind of co-op or online multiplayer DDV will have, but it’s definitely on the plan for this year, so keep your ears open.
Whether or not DDV would have multiplayer was a bit of a personal goose chase for me last year. Only one mention of it seemed to exist in the wild (thanks IGN) and when I asked Gameloft about it, I actually got Jedi mind tricks in response –these are not the features you are looking for. But apparently patience, if not persistence, wins the day. We will definitely get multiplayer this year, in one form or another.
Importantly, we don’t yet know the details of what we’ll be able to do in Dreamlight Valley’s multiplayer, but as a hunch on my part, it seems like visiting your friends’ islands will be the bare minimum. Other than that, we’ll have to wait and see.
As for the parts of the roadmap that are a little more concrete, Gameloft has teased a few new characters we can expect to see this year. Mirabel from Encanto and Olaf from Frozen seem to be the picks for a February update alongside a 100th anniversary themed Disney star trail. An April update will bring Simba and a star trail at Disney parks. The early summer update appears to tease a prince and princess arriving together.
Dreamlight Valley is still in early access – we’ve awarded it best early access game in PC Gamer’s 2022 Game of the Year awards. As it continues to add features and characters leading up to a full release, we’ll be here to play and help you figure out how to do that get Buzz and Woody or Stitch unlock or find all quests for that royal tool upgrades.
