Having new games to play is often one of the joys of the holiday season. In the northern hemisphere it is too cold to go out half the time and here in Australia we have the opposite problem. It doesn’t matter if you’ve had some great adventures, or if you’ve finally taken the time to sit down and play some games, this time of year is ready for gaming.
Of course, even if all of these factors coalesce into the gaming vacation of your dreams, you might be lucky enough to find something to play them on. I’m not talking about a rig to run it, although we can certainly help there too. But what you really need this holiday season, with your house full of friends and family taking up all your viewing space, is an extra gaming screen. To take with you to your private gaming sanctuary.
With the weather potentially warming up for my friends in the UK, this scenario can only get worse. To help, I found this 27-inch Samsung Odyssey G5 gaming monitor for sale at Curries at £239.00 (opens in new tab). It’s billed as about £50 below the normal price and after comparing it to other sites that seems about right. Placing this monitor in the lower £200 range is certainly a tempting deal, especially with these specs.
The Samsung Odyssey LC27G55TQWUXEN model on offer here promises a 144Hz refresh rate on a nice looking curved WQHD 2560×1440 display. It supports HDR 10 and mega dynamic contrast. This means you should get clear images with very deep blacks and vibrant colors. Perfect to play some nice games.
The curve of this model is 1000 R, which is fairly concave. Most of us favorite curved monitors (opens in new tab) are closer to 1800, except Samsung’s beastly Odyssey G9 LC49G95T ultra-wide (opens in new tab) offering that shares the 1000 R curve. Be prepared to feel a little embraced by this screen in a lovingly immersive way.
In the spirit of gaming monitors, Samsung’s G5 has a 1ms response time when paired with AMD FreeSync Premium. This means you probably can’t blame this screen if your k/d ratio isn’t as good as normal. Maybe stick to blaming the holiday spirit for that.
Being a Samsung monitor you get that branded panel and they are known for making really nice ones. Plus, there’s a 2-year warranty so you don’t have to worry about a big purchase. At the time of writing, these were listed as low stock in the Curry’s store, so you might want to act fast if you’re looking for one of these holiday deals.
