Mass Effect 2’s suicide mission – for which you’re about to read some spoilers, by the way – is a beloved finale to an excellent RPG. Forced to split up your squad and assign appropriate specialists to a series of dangerous tasks, it’s a test of how well you’ve come to know your team over the course of the game. (And whether you’ve completed all of their loyalty missions.) If you go blind, it’s entirely possible to make choices that will result in some of your beloved squad mates dying, meaning they’ll be absent from Mass Effect 3. What a quite a large consequence if you fail .
If you the suicide mission flowchart (opens in new tab), you might think there’s a choice that’s a little unfair. During a section called The Long Walk where you must choose a biotic specialist to maintain a force field bubble while walking through a swarm of deadly bugs, picking Miranda will kill someone. Unless you the Miranda’s long walk (opens in new tab) mod for Mass Effect Legendary Edition, ie.
Cards on the table: I chose Miranda as the Biotic Specialist when I first played Mass Effect 2. She is reliable, follows orders, and her backstory is that she was genetically engineered to be superior in everything. Plus, in battle, she’s just as powerful as any of the other biotics on your team. And that’s how I killed Thane.
You’re not supposed to think about the mechanical balance of the combat in Mass Effect 2, you see. In cutscenes, Jack has abilities far beyond what anyone else is capable of, and Samara or Morinth, whichever asari is on your team, also has special cutscenes. But if you want to pick Miranda and not let anyone die, this mod lets you do just that.
To install it, you first have it ME3Tweaks mod manager (opens in new tab), which allows you to backup your game files and modify all games in the Legendary Edition. Then you have the Unofficial LE2 patch (opens in new tab), which you want anyway. Then you can download Miranda’s long walk (opens in new tab).
Since the dialogue for the suicide mission was recorded before deciding who the best choices would be, the mod restores Miranda’s unused lines and changes the consequences for choosing her.
