Activision has lifted restrictions on prepaid cell phones for Battle.net’s 2FA system, meaning anyone with a cell phone, regardless of model, can play Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and Overwatch 2.

Activision and Blizzard came under fire for the 2FA system, called SMS security (opens in new tab)in October – not because of the phone number requirement, like other games Dota 2 (opens in new tab) and Rainbow Six Siege (opens in new tab) also need it, but because it wouldn’t accept prepaid cell phones or VOIP. In other words, if you wanted to play two of the biggest games of the year, you had to have a cell phone subscription, something a lot of people are choose not to (opens in new tab) as prepaid wireless services become more flexible and competitive.
