German striker Niclas Fullkrug’s 83rd minute equalizer from a hard-fought match saved a much needed 1-1 draw against Spain during Sunday’s Group E game.

Spain were the dominant side during the scoreless first half and looked most likely to score first, despite a German goal disallowed.

Changes at the start of the second half also fell largely on Spain, with substitute Alvaro Morata scoring in the 62nd minute.

Germany head coach Hanzi Flick chased the game and made several substitutions – one of which was Fullkrug who netted the equalizer for his side, putting his team in a much stronger position as they took on Costa Rica who won Japan from prank had made with a 1-0 win earlier in the day.
