Saudi King Salman announces a short holiday for workers and students in the kingdom to celebrate the victory.

Jubilant Saudi football fans celebrating late into the night on Tuesday can sleep in tomorrow after authorities in Riydh declare a national holiday on the occasion of a shocking World Cup win.

The Green Falcons’ 2-1 victory over Argentinaone of the world’s top-ranked teams, is one of the biggest shocking results in the tournament’s history.

“This is football. Sometimes things are completely crazy,” said Saudi Arabia coach HervĂ© Renard. “All the stars were aligned for us,” added Renard, who won the African Cup of Nations in 2012 as Zambia’s coach and repeated the feat with Ivory Coast in 2015.

In Saudi Arabia, King Salman announced a short holiday for public and private sector workers, as well as students in the kingdom, to celebrate the victory.

The announcement follows a similar move by Cameroon during the 1990 World Cup in Italy, when the incredible African team defeated Argentina and also declared a holiday the following day.

Saudi Arabia had won just three World Cup games in its history before gaining the upper hand, with second-half goals from Saleh al-Shehri and Salem al-DawsarI answering a penalty scored by Lionel Messi in the 10th minute.

Saudi Arabia will play against Poland on Saturday and Mexico in Group C next Tuesday.
