Stormzy takes training for his live shows so seriously that it looks like he’s getting ready for the Olympics.

The Vossi Bop rapper was originally set to tour in 2020 with his 2019 album Heavy Is the Head in the UK, but after a series of delays due to the pandemic, he finally started his trek in March 2022.

In an interview with GQ, the 29-year-old revealed that he was doing everything he could to make sure his body was ready to tour after being away from performing live for so long.

“I’m proud to have a great show,” he said. “I pride myself on being a great artist. So I think, ‘OK, what do you have to do to do that?’ I go on the most intense diet and have my nutritionist come in. I get my trainer and we do intense workouts; you would think I was training for the Olympics. And I quit smoking weed because I know the best version of myself doesn’t. I don’t smoke weed. I don’t see it as discipline. It’s just easy math in my head. Here’s what you have to do.”

In the time between announcing the tour and the actual shows, Stormzy wondered if he wouldn’t feel a little out of sorts.

“It’s just that I’ve been living my life for the past few years, walking my dogs every day, just really walking my normal life,” he shared. “So when it’s time to put on the cape, I’m like ‘Oh, s**t.’ I know I still have my super powers but I haven’t worn this cape in ages then I go in the closet and put it on and I know I’m going to fly out and use my powers but of course on a human , you’re like, ‘Well, I might be feeling a little rusty.'”

He needn’t have worried though, as the shows “did a lot for (his) self-confidence” and assured him that he still has his fans’ support.
