November and December are prime months for reminiscing, a time to hand out GOTY awards and reflect on what the past year has meant for PC gaming. They’re also when we start to take a closer look at next year, which is to whatever major game has been postponed. This year, that is Star fieldquite a big game.

That doesn’t stop new games from being released in late fall and early winter, though, and there are still some potential bangers on the 2022 release calendar. I think three of them in particular could turn out to be bigger than the gaming scene as a whole currently realizes:

  • Marvel’s Midnight Sun is weird, but in a compelling way. That’s what I thought when I played a bit of it earlier this yearand I wasn’t sure others would agree, but now I feel validated—Fraser called it “unusual”, but said he “loves it”. I could get pretty big if it manages to attract both Marvel likes who wouldn’t normally like a Firaxis tactics game and Firaxis likers who wouldn’t normally like a Marvel game.
  • Sim Ixion for space colony management isn’t a game I’ve heard much about, but the industrial space art is attractive, and Chris liked the short demo. It could quietly become the strategy game that fills our dark winter nights.
  • Choo Choo Charles resembling the kind of thing that could turn out to be a janky game that streamers amuse themselves with for a week or a new horror phenomenon.
