The creators of Dungeons & Dragons at Wizards of the Coast have come together with Lego and hatched a plan to commemorate 50 years of D&D. What they finally came up with is this picturesque, working D&D dungeon map of less than 3,000 pieces, soon to become an official Lego set.
In October, hopeful designers were asked to submit Lego dioramas featuring the favorite features of their most cherished tabletop role-playing game. The winning build has now been selected for manufacture as an official D&D x Lego Ideas set, and this wonderfully nerdy marriage left me wishing Wizards of the Coast would team up with a PC case manufacturer for the same.
The winner – chosen by both fans and judges – is Dragon’s Keep: End of the journey (opens in new tab)by Lucas of Amsterdam (aka BoltBuilds on the Lego site), who receives “1% of the total product net sales”, along with 10 free copies of their design, and designer credit.
Dragon’s Keep: Journey’s End is built with less than 3,000 pieces and features “great routes every time with interchangeable doors,” meaning it can actually be used as a functional D&D map in the game.
It looks like the green dragon is also fully posable, but whether it will appear in the final set is another matter. Now imagine if they chose to commission a D&D inspired PC case for the 50th anniversary, that would be the dream.
You can keep an eye out Lego Ideas blog (opens in new tab) for details on when the set will be available, as I cry for not getting that gaudy D&D PC case Aarakocra (opens in new tab) Bard in me wanted.
