Jab We Met, the 2007 romantic comedy that starred Kareena Kapoor Khan and Shahid Kapoor as the lovable Geet and Aditya, is one of the most cherished films in Bollywood history. The film, directed by Imtiaz Ali, was a huge hit at the box office and received critical acclaim for its refreshing story, witty dialogues, and memorable songs. The film also marked the end of Kareena and Shahid’s relationship, which had been in the spotlight for several years.
Now, after 16 years, there are reports that a sequel to Jab We Met is in the works. According to a report by Times Now, Jab We Met 2 is in the early stages of development and will be produced by Raj Mehta, the owner of Ashtavinayak, under the Gandhar Films banner. The report also suggests that Imtiaz Ali might be involved in the sequel as well.
The possibility of Kareena and Shahid’s reunion
The news of Jab We Met 2 has sparked excitement among the fans of the original film, who are eager to see Geet and Aditya’s story continue. However, the biggest question on everyone’s mind is whether Kareena and Shahid will reprise their roles in the sequel or not. The ex-couple has not worked together since Jab We Met and has moved on with their respective lives. Kareena is married to actor Saif Ali Khan and has two sons, Taimur and Jehangir. Shahid is married to Mira Rajput and has two children, Misha and Zain.
While there is no official confirmation or denial from either of the actors or the makers of Jab We Met 2, some fans are hopeful that they will reunite on screen for the sake of their iconic characters. Others are skeptical and wary of ruining the charm of the original film. Some fans have also suggested other actors who could play Geet and Aditya in the sequel, such as Sara Ali Khan and Kartik Aaryan, who starred in Imtiaz Ali’s Love Aaj Kal 2.
Shahid’s views on Jab We Met 2
Earlier this year, Jab We Met was re-released in theatres, sparking renewed interest in the film. Shahid Kapoor discussed the potential sequel in an interview, emphasising the importance of a compelling script. He said, “It really depends on the quality of that script. So if there is a script that demands a sequel and I feel it is the kind of script that you read and say ‘man this will be better than the original, this can match up to the original,’ I would do it. But if I feel it’s not and I’m just trying to use the brand value of the original thing to do, then I feel that ‘why are you doing it, don’t do it.’”
Shahid also praised Kareena’s portrayal of Geet, emphasising that no other actress could do justice to the character. He said, “I cannot comment on my role, but for Geet (Kareena Kapoor’s character), I really doubt anybody else will be able to do that kind of justice.”
As fans eagerly await further updates, the possibility of a Jab We Met sequel has sparked excitement and anticipation in Bollywood enthusiasts worldwide.
