I’m a sucker for a clever indie puzzle game, so of course Sushi for Robots looks pretty good, doesn’t it? It’s a simple premise, the robots are obsessed with some sushi and you have to serve it to them by setting up the weird conveyor belts they eat off of. It will be released in Spring 2023, but we know a little bit about it now, and I like how that looks.
It is a solution-oriented puzzle game, where you use the available tools to modify the outcome: these are stickers that allow you to place new effects on the board.
“It’s actually a pretty chill game. You can always hit reset and try another solution,” the description says.
Sushi For Robots will be mouse-based for accessibility and will focus on experimentation-based puzzling. That’s a style more familiar to the Softronics (opens in new tab) design school, where there are many solutions to a given puzzle using your tools, some of which are already more optimal than others – for me at least the most satisfying kind of puzzle.
Sushi for Robots was created by indie developer Luis Diaz Peralta (opens in new tab), in addition to art and music contributions from a few others, under the name Ludipe & Friends. You can find Sushi for robots on Steam (opens in new tab)where it plans to release in Spring 2023.
For more games like Sushi for Robots, you should almost certainly play Dorfromantik, the game Wes Fenlon called the “‘No Thoughts, Just Vibes’ Game of the Year” (opens in new tab).
If you prefer the cozy atmosphere, try something like A little to the left (opens in new tab). If your speed is more puzzling mysteries than arcane puzzles, check it out The Case of the Golden Idol (opens in new tab) or Strange horticulture (opens in new tab).
And of course there is a fantastic puzzle game Patrick’s Parabox. (opens in new tab)
