No matter how hard I fight it every year during Black Friday I come down with a serious case of technolust. Beaten with deal madness, that rational part of my brain that says “do you really need that?” or “you can’t eat a piece of RAM if you’re hungry,” curtly. I’m starting to look into PC upgrades that I’ve never seriously considered for the rest of the year. This fugue status is how I bought a $600 RTX 3070 in 2020 just to play Quake 2 with ray tracing (and it was worth it). Yesterday I bought a fast PCIe Gen 4 SSD (opens in new tab)and I’m perilously close to buying a new motherboard and CPU to squeeze every ounce of speed out of it.

The one thing I’m definitely not buying this year is a fancy 4K monitor.
